Gozour - Al Azazia medical center

The idea for the "Gozour-Roots" project began with Trous Egypt Foundation as a social service initiative. The foundation, with the help of village residents who have the means and some funding entities interested in the idea, aims to give back to the more needy villages in Egypt. The project involves providing a service or product that the village needs, following an initial study of the village’s needs by a trained team from the foundation. This includes conducting a basic needs assessment and prioritizing these needs to determine the most urgent ones to address, thereby aiding the selected villages in achieving social security.

A group of residents from Azbet Mohamed Abdel Ghaaleel, one of 42 hamlets belonging to the village of El-Azizia in the Tamia district of Fayoum, approached the Trous Egypt Foundation for Development. They have a pressing need for the establishment of a community medical center in their village, as the existing health unit building is in a dilapidated state and surrounded by livestock, reflecting a condition of neglect. Additionally, there is another building under construction for which a decision was made over 11 years ago, intended to serve the western Asyut road, which is very close to the village due to frequent accidents on this road. Despite this, the allocated budget of 3 million Egyptian pounds for the building has not yet been utilized. Moreover, the absence of a permanent doctor and the lack of essential equipment and facilities in the main unit means it is not adequately serving the village and the 26 other hamlets affiliated with it. The nearest hospital is located in Tamia city, about an hour away from the village.

As a result, a local resident donated a piece of land to the Trous Egypt Foundation for the development of a comprehensive medical center and pharmacy, along with a specialized training hall to teach village youth various skills needed for jobs in nearby factories and hospitals, as well as some life skills. Additionally, the training will include care for the elderly for local young women.
